Hypnosis is NOT Mind Control, so what is it?
With all our modern knowledge, new technology and research into the mind and body, many people still fear the thought of being hypnotised – of somebody having control of their mind. Little do they know, that they are being hypnotised all the time, and even hypnotising themselves! So how does this work, and what exactly is hypnosis.
You may be surprised that hypnosis is merely a state of deep relaxation – a natural state that we all go into several times a day without even realising it. For example, when driving a car and getting from A to B without even realising how you got there, or watching TV when you are so engrossed in what you are watching – you can still hear other things, but you are totally focused on what you’re watching. Far from being asleep or unaware, hypnosis is a state in which you are both deeply relaxed yet have a heightened level of suggestibility as well as a focused awareness. It is because of this heightened state of mind that you can use hypnosis to make changes to your self beliefs, and patterns of thinking safely and naturally.
We all know that it is the subconscious part of the mind that controls 90% of what we do, and has the most profound impact on who we are and who we ever hope to become. Within the subconscious mind resides our imagination, emotions, memories, habits, and our most deeply held beliefs about ourselves and what is possible for us.
It is these deeply held subconscious patterns and beliefs that drive our decisions and shape our lives. When we desire to make a lasting, positive change in our lives, it is these subconscious patterns that we must change.
Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do. In hypnotherapy, the therapist guides the client into the state, however, the client is in complete control of their thoughts, and can break the state whenever they want to, or simply refuse to accept suggestions. Like, for example, on that car trip mentioned previously, if a child were to run in front of the car, the driver would instantly become focused on the road, break the trance state and stop! That’s what it’s like in hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is a powerful vehicle through which we can tackle the obstructions in our subconscious and permanently banish them from our lives.
